About Our Agency
Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania is a unique organization consisting of eight traditional Club facilities, a cafe and retail venture for our teen entrepreneurship program, and juvenile justice services. Our goal is to provide every child with the essential tools needed for a successful and bright future. Since 1888, when we were founded, the vision of Boys & Girls Clubs has grown and changed with the needs of our children. As the needs of our children and their families continue to change, so will the dynamics of our programs and services.
Every day, Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania strive to improve each child's life by implementing self-esteem, courage, and positive values through all of our programs. Over 7,000 youth come to the Boys & Girls Clubs every year to receive tutoring and homework help, computer training, sports, fitness and recreation, arts programs, summer programming, a safe place to be with friends and mentoring. Our youth gain confidence by developing a sense of competence, usefulness, positive influence and belonging.
Why After School Programs?
Research by the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Harvard Family Research Project concluded that “after school programs are influencing academic performance in a number of ways, including better attitudes toward school and higher educational aspirations; higher school attendance rates; less disciplinary action; lower dropout rates; better performance in school, as measured by achievement test scores and grades; significant gains in academic achievement test scores; improved homework completion; and deeper engagement in learning.” In our Club this is all done in a safe environment full of opportunities for individual success.
