Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania is proud to be an authorized partner of the Learn & Earn Summer Youth Employment Program. Learn & Earn is one of our youth workforce development offerings part of our Career Works Program.

Our Learn & Earn program is one of the teen programs offered this summer and includes up to six weeks of paid work experience. Teens will brush up on their “power skills” like collaboration, critical thinking, public speaking, customer service and more! Additionally, they will get to experience a mentored work opportunity in our Clubhouses, administrative office, our Artificial Intelligence Pathways Institute or be placed in a corporate internship. What makes our Learn & Earn Program different is the personalized learning plan for each participant and opportunities to learn about careers and take field trips such as company tours.

“Our Learn & Earn Program introduces teens to the real-world and offers them opportunities to build key skills they need after high school. Our hope is that teens in our Learn & Earn will participate in other teen programs we offer like Healthy Lifestyles, Career Works or sports programs so they have year-round support from us,” said Kara Petrosky, Director of Teen & Support Services.

Learn & Earn summer employment program is open to young people, ages 14-21, who live in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh.  Participants will gain the soft skills and valuable work experience necessary to become college and career ready, and successful members of our region’s workforce. Learn & Earn is designed to provide meaningful work experience and career exposure to young adults with limited access to these types of opportunities. Teens must financially qualify to participate in the program ensuring that the teens who need it most, have access.

Learn & Earn Interns get to meet Congressman Conor Lamb last summer when he visited our Carnegie Clubhouse.

Our program goals are to:

  • Create a positive and safe work experience for youth
  • Increase youth exposure to potential careers, occupations, and critical occupational skills
  • Tour companies, colleges and trade schools, attend industry events and meet professionals from various high-demand career clusters
  • Increase youth’s power skills through work-readiness training tailored to their development stages and learning goals
  • Offer additional teen programs to Learn & Earn members throughout our vast array of activities and clubhouses
