Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania is committed to keeping our youth members engaged physically, mentally and emotionally while our school districts remain closed and BGCWPA enters the reopening phase to offer a new blended model of in-person and virtual Summer programming.

BGCWPA is excited to announce our “Growing Hope” initiative to inspire members to explore healthy eating and cooking, physical fitness and the science behind growing vegetables and eating right! We are also excited to partner with local farms to procure the veggies, distribute seeds from Farm to Table and chefs which will have LIVE weekly cooking demos using the veggies we deliver.

All of the materials and supplies needed will be delivered right to the doorsteps of 200 youth! This initiative will include items such as plants, seeds, pots and soil along with a pedometer, water bottle and healthy living materials to promote nutrition and exercise during and after COVID-19, as well as learning about STEM, and healthy eating. These deliveries will be accompanied by STEM videos provided by our own staff and from our partners at Farm to Table.

The Growing Hope initiative will be a 3 phase project, including three deliveries of fresh vegetables from local farms, and weekly virtual cooking lessons from Chef’s like Jen Saffron from Sprezzatura in Millvale, PA.  In the final phase, youth will learn more about why staying physically fit and eating healthy is so important, and will be asked to track their steps for the chance to win prizes and compete against their peers in friendly competition!

Deliveries will begin mid June and extend into July. Interested in being a part of Growing Hope free of charge? Fill out this interest form.

Thank you to our dedicated lead sponsor, Dollar Bank, and supporting sponsor, Lowe’s Home Improvement, for supporting BGCWPA’s relief efforts and helping youth to “Grow Hope” during this difficult time.
