Hello BGCWPA families,

How quickly the summer has gone and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that you all had time to spend together and were able to enjoy the sunshine. We recognize the stress of all that back to school time is creating for many families and we want to support you during these trying times. We want to thank you for your responses regarding the communication sent out last week and for your participation in the parent survey and pre-registrations. Based on your feedback, we’re pleased to let you know all of our stand alone locations (pending demand and interest from families) will be open during the day to assist your child(ren) with virtual school work and provide engaging in enriching programming. We’ve hired additional staff to support this specialty school year day camp and have the experience running in-person programs so you can feel comfortable placing your child(ren) in our Clubhouses. We’re committing to run this speciality school year day camp for the first semester and will assess continuing into the second semester.

BGCWPA is reopening select stand alone Clubhouse sites on September 8, 2020.

The decision to reopen the Clubhouses was based off of local school district’s reopening plans. Carnegie, Estelle S. Campbell (Lawrenceville), LaRosa (McKeesport), Northern Area (Millvale), and Orchard Park (Duquesne) are the stand alone Clubhouses that will be opening at this time. Our Shadyside Clubhouse is still undergoing renovations and may open sometime during the fall semester.

BGCWPA is opening school based Clubhouse sites starting on September 28, 2020 pending school district re-opening plans.

These locations include Sto-Rox Primary School Clubhouse, Sto-Rox Upper Elementary School Clubhouse, Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship Clubhouse, Scott Primary Clubhouse, Somerset Boys & Girls Clubhouse, and Duquesne City School District Clubhouse. It is our intention to support the decisions of school district administration. If school districts determine a virtual start to begin the school year, BGCWPA is committed to offering alternative care at BGCWPA stand alone Clubhouses.

BGCWPA has adopted a licensed model which follows all PA Chapter 3270 Regulations and allows families access to Child Care Works (Subsidized funding for high quality childcare). To apply for this funding, please contact ELRC5. For information regarding qualifications to be eligible for Child Care Works (CCW) subsidized funding please click here.

New this year, we are excited to announce that our Northern Area (Millvale) Clubhouse has applied for PA Department of Human Services licensure and will be a Star 1 licensed provider beginning September 8, 2020 following our initial DHS inspection. We look forward to being able to offer families access to Child Care Works (CCW) funding and building to higher levels of quality through Pennsylvania’s Quality Rating Improvement System known as Keystone STARS.

BGCWPA also has non-licensed facilities that follow the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Charter of Membership and Governance. BGCWPA’s curriculum has an emphasis on high quality afterschool programming for youth. Limited scholarships are available for these programs to ensure it’s affordable to all children and families.

Please know that BGCWPA has adopted a Health and Safety Plan that aligns to the CDC guidance and recommendations from the Allegheny County Health Department. This plan will be followed at all of our Clubhouses this fall and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Safety is of utmost importance as we reopen for fall programming. All staff will go through COVID screening again prior to the launch of school-year programs to ensure we are COVID negative; we want you to feel confident we have taken every step possible to keep children safe.

We are glad to welcome back existing and new families this fall and commit to doing whatever it takes to keep your kids safe, enriched and having fun as much as possible and appropriate!

Please email education@bgcwpa.org for any questions that you may have. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lisa Abel-Palmieri
