The Champion of Youth Award is an annual award given to the organization, corporate partner, community partner or individual who has lived our BGCWPA mission over the last year more than anyone else. This Champion is recognized at the annual gala as an example of how the community and BGCWPA can work together to serve more local youth with quality programming. This will be the 6th year this award has been given, and we are so honored and excited to present the 2020 Champion of Youth award to PPG!

PPG has been an integral partner in starting and developing the PPG Artificial Intelligence Pathways Institute (AIPI) and Teen Accelerator program here at BGCWPA. Since its inception in 2019, AIPI has served over 60 local youth over a 3 week intensive program during the summer months. PPG AI Pathways Institute and Teen Accelerator is an introduction to artificial intelligence, human centered design and STEM careers for rising 9th-11th grade students (ages 14-17) with a passion for technology — especially students from historically underrepresented groups in the field. AI and the fourth industrial revolution will impact every aspect of people’s lives, yet AI and machine learning has a diversity problem. Robust partnerships with leading institutions of higher education and industry, such as our primary sponsor, PPG Industries, are critical to the real-world projects AIPI members tackle. With over 75 volunteers participating in the 2019 AIPI program, PPG exemplifies exactly what a Champion of Youth should be. Even with our virtual programming for the Summer of 2020, PPG still stepped up to serve as judges for the student showcase.

Thank you so much, PPG, for your continued support of our programs, our events, and most importantly, our youth! It is only with partners such as PPG that BGCWPA can continue to activate and advance the potential in every child by doing whatever it takes to ensure they have great futures. Congratulations to our 2020 Champion of Youth winner, PPG! We look forward to growing our partnership to serve even more youth with even more programming!

BGCWPA Board Member and PPG Senior Vice President & CFO, Vince Morales, accepted the award on behalf of PPG. Vince shared, “At PPG, we aim to share our passion and joy for experimentation and the life-changing differences made possible through color with future generations.” “Our alike missions to create possibilities for our local youth enable a wonderful partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs. My personal experiences with the organization have been nothing short of remarkable and I’ve seen first-hand the efforts to enable bridges to great futures.”

Congratulations PPG!
