rue21, a leading retailer for teens and young adults, had extra inventory because of temporary store closures due to COVID 19. When they were trying to figure out what to do with the 500,000 items, Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania was the first organization that came to mind!
According to Julia Draper, rue21’s VP of marketing, “We’re thrilled to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania. The programming BGCWPA offers is so valuable and an integral part of the broader community.”
Julia also stressed that their customers are diverse, and inclusion is a core tenet of the brand. “BGCWPA and rue21 are both focused on empowering our young population and giving them confidence and freedom to express their individuality.”
rue21 prices are accessible, their size ranges are inclusive, and the style of clothing is current and fashionable. Together, we are going to make many youth and teens very happy! This will be a huge help or parents as well!
rue21’s mission statement says, “rue21 isn’t just about looking good-we also want to do good by partnering with charitable organizations that fit our style and culture. rueGIVESback is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of our customers and Associates in the rueCommunities where they live, work, shop, and play.”
As part of BGCWPA’s Club on the Go program, volunteers will separate the generous donation from rue21 into giveaway bags for the teens and youth BGCWPA and its partners serve. Recently, 40 volunteers from UPS gave their time to put together bags while following strict CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of all. This group was able to put hundreds of giveaway bags together to be distributed throughout local communities and to those who lack resources during this trying time. Thank you UPS for your time and commitment to our BGCWPA youth!
“Club on the Go” keeps youth engaged physically, mentally and emotionally while at home and inspires them to explore healthy eating and cooking, art, fashion and creativity, physical fitness, STEM and the science behind growing vegetables and nutrition and so much more! It is more important than ever that BGCWPA continues to meet the needs of our youth in new ways by bringing both education and fun right to their doorsteps with weekly deliveries of educational materials. Now more than ever, our BGCWPA youth, of which more than 75% are eligible for free and reduced lunch, need additional support.
BGCWPA is dedicated to minimizing the learning and resource gap created by the COVID-19 pandemic by offering youth educational and emotional support and opportunities throughout the Summer and beyond, both in-person, virtually and with delivered initiatives including Club on the Go.
Look for notifications in the coming months for where and when we will be distributing the rue21 items which range from boots, to apparel, to accessories! THANK YOU rue21!!!!!!
