Moments that Matter
This giving season, BGCWPA will be highlighting moments that matter – stories of our incredible youth members, distinguished alumni, staff members that have devoted decades to our mission, and donors that are ready to pave the way for the future of our programming!
In the weeks ahead, you’ll read about why contrary to what may be popular belief, Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania reflects on 2020 as a year of opportunity. With the ability to reach even more youth, communities and families with the adaption of our programming and resources.
ReINVESTING in youth is the very goal of the annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania Youth of the Year initiative. Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy. In the 21st-century world and workplace, leadership skills such as communication, goal-setting and teamwork are essential for
everyone – especially young people preparing to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.
We are so proud and thrilled to announce Nick Cindrich as our 2020 Western Pennsylvania Youth of the Year winner, as Nick perfectly embodies the mission, goals and values of BGCWPA! As a Clubhouse member since the age of 5 and a staff member of our Carnegie Clubhouse, Nick has spent much time helping and teaching other youth through our STEM and robotics programs. Nick shares his eagerness and compassion with the youth he teaches, in addition to his fellow staff members. He also enjoys competition as a Clubhouse, high school and travel hockey player! As a 2020 Carlynton High School graduate, Nick will be moving on to attend Kent State University as a Mechatronic Engineering major, a major selection he attributes to his introduction to STEM at the Carnegie Clubhouse! We wish Nick the best of luck and congratulate him on all of his achievements!
As BGCWPA, our partners, supporters, donors, volunteers and staff continue to ReINVEST in our organization, we’d like to introduce you to Ti’yanna. Ti’yanna has been a staff member at BGCWPA for almost a year after having met Dr. Lisa Abel-Palmieri in high school. While Ti’yanna was not a BGCWPA member as a child, she participated in other after school programs in
her community that provided her support that she needed to get off on the right track. Now a Sophomore at Duquesne University in Accounting, Ti’yanna has been given the opportunity to gain real life experience in the office and Accounts Payable departments of BGCWPA to determine her future aspirations, build her resume and help offset the costs of school books, tuition and her first apartment! She has also worked in a few of our Clubhouses as a youth development professional.
Ti’yanna shares “The staff at BGCWPA has become my mentors, supporting me in my studies, making sure I have an understanding of the real world, giving me people to talk to if I have any troubles and so much more.” Ti’yanna enjoys giving back to her community and working with youth even while attending school. Therefore, it is no shock that her favorite quote is “Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you.” We are so proud to have Ti’yanna on the BGCWPA team and know she will take what she has learned at Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania to make the world a better place!
