According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, STEM occupations are forecast to grow at a rate over 76% higher than non-STEM job growth nationwide.

Did you know that Pittsburgh’s tech job postings soared 44% from May 2020 to June 2020, the highest increase in the country! This statistic was provided by the PA Chamber. Dice, a subsidiary of publicly traded DHI Group (NYSE: DHX) from a database of more than 1 billion current and past job postings worldwide. Many of the cities that saw a high percentage increase in tech job postings from May to June are what Dice describes as “emerging” tech hubs. Pittsburgh led the pack with a 44% increase.

BGCWPA is proud to play a key role in providing access to high demand skills, jobs and career opportunities in STEM related fields to local youth through our STEM, Career Works Workforce Development Academy, Artificial Intelligence Pathways Institute and Teen Accelerator program and specialty programs. We believe that the skills developed in STEM programming will grow with learners throughout their entire lives. Our programs are meant to be a both a continuum for students who are part of the larger Boys & Girls Club movement, and accessible for students who would like to experience quality STEM programs to meet their individual passion.

The Afterschool Alliance, a resource for after school programs, shares, “research shows that early engagement and sustained opportunities throughout a child’s development will yield greater success in STEM fields. This includes experiences outside of the classroom, where participants are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in a hands-on, inquiry-based environment.” Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania is engaging and exciting youth from kindergarten through high school with fun, interactive projects on a daily basis to expose our youth to the many aspects and careers in STEM.

Join us THIS COMING MONDAY at 9:00AM on Pittsburgh Today Live for the kick off of STEM Fest and check out our BGCWPA STEM programs on our website

Thank you to KDKA and all of the STEM Fest sponsors for partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania to provide opportunities for local youth!
