At Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, we do whatever it takes to activate and advance the potential in our youth so that they have great futures. When COVID-19 necessitated closures of our Clubhouses and programs we immediately jumped into action to stay connected to our families, youth and the communities we serve.   Upon calling and communicating via email with over 1,000 members so far from our stand alone Clubhouses, we determined that 45% of our families needed cleaning supplies, 35% needed basic hygiene supplies and another 25% needed water and groceries. We are now taking enrollments. This service is only open to Allegheny County employees, at this time and will be head at our Estelle S. Campbell Clubhouse in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. This service is provided free of charge, but all youth must be registered and approved to start services. Reporter Kristine Sorensen recently visited our PPG Artificial Intelligence Pathways Institute to learn about our new teen programs including our Teen Workforce Development Academy and Healthy Lifestyles Program. We serve around 1,000 teens every year and plan to double that this year. We're proud partners of the PA Smart Advancing STEM Initiative. The Office of Population Affairs of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the award of $13,566,000 for 29 grants to organizations for Replication of Programs Proven Effective through Rigorous Evaluation to Reduce Teenage Pregnancy, Behavioral Risk Factors Underlying Teenage Pregnancy, or Other Associated Risk Factors (Tier 1) – Phase I. Club Kids Inventing Dreams with STEAM


This summer kids across Pittsburgh are attending our STEAM Camps offered at three of our Clubhouses. In Carnegie kids are becoming inventors at our STEM Invention Camp and designing cool summer clothes in our Fashion Design and Sewing Camp. In Lawrenceville kids are exploring VEX Robotics and will have the chance to join our FLL or VEX teams this fall. In a few weeks we are excited to launch our new Teen STEM Camp, the PPG "Artificial Intelligence Pathways Institute & Teen Accelerator."
