BGCWPA Teens Gain Real Life Experience with Accenture

BGCWPA Teens Gain Real Life Experience with Accenture

Over the past 8 weeks, our partners at Accenture  had the privilege to work with the BGCWPA Career Works Program teens on a business marketing experiential learning project. The purpose of this programming was to learn about entrepreneurship and social media marketing, and to develop the skills for this type of work through a real-life project. From our partners at Accenture:

“We partnered with Cope’s Café and Pizzeria, a pizza and wings shop in Pittsburgh, and worked together with the participants to analyze their current social media presence, and create new ideas for the business in the future. The teens, both in person and virtual, had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Wayne Copeland (Owner) and Mr. Stephen Johnson (Consultant) to hear first-hand the experience of a local entrepreneur and businessman. Each following session had two parts to it: a presentation on a key theme or skill and then an activity using that information. For example, we talked about using Instagram to increase customers, and how to use graphic design principles using Canva (an online tool) to help create visually appealing posts. We then logged into Canva and actually created content that Copes Café could use on their Instagram page.

To wrap up the programming, the Career Works teens presented the culmination of their learnings over the span of a few weeks. The presentation included the Instagram posts and TikTok video they created, and they discussed the intention and thought that went into the creation (ie. Increasing sales, gaining more customers, promoting the business).  Mr. Copeland greatly enjoyed the presentation, so much that he invited them to recreate the performance at the pizzeria. We hope that the teens had a positive experience and look forward to working together in the future.”

What is Career Works?

Our Workforce Development Academy, Career Works, is a full service program that takes teens and young adults on a formalized journey from filling in academic gaps, career exploration and soft skills training to relevant occupational skill building, work experience and a formalized plan for their future. Program elements include mentorship, paid internships, registered pre/apprenticeships, dual-enrollment courses, full-time career placement support and post-program transition. Our goal is to help our young people surpass major barriers in the way of their success. By hiring an internal staff of BGCWPA career coaches, partnering with corporations, training intermediaries and higher-educational institutions, we connect youth and young adults with viable career options and expose them to high demand industries. Youth will also learn about building confidence, health esteem and reducing risky behaviors through our Healthy Lifestyles Program and support of our mentoring success coaches.
