Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No! You can join one camp without being a member. However, anyone Kindergarten through 12th grade can be a member of Boys & Girls Clubs. There are no financial restrictions and you don’t have to live near a Clubhouse. You can participate in our program simply by being the appropriate age!

Our programs are inclusive and are meant to bring students of all levels together to do great things! Our staff will work with participants to help them build understanding towards becoming great makers, programmers, and engineers.

Yes! While the official program runs from 10am until 4pm, students can sign up to participate in the before and after care program for an extra $40 dollars per week. This would provide care from 7:30am to 6:30pm at most locations. Find out more and register on our Programs & Services page.

Students will run through a variety of activities both on and off a computer.

In the Robotics and AI camps of both the Lego and VEX IQ varieties, students will learn about movement and sensors with the robot as well as basic programming structures. Students will also learn about basic concepts in AI such as image recognition and Natural Language Processing. During the last two days of camp students will prepare for and compete in a short robotics competition.

In Maker Camp, students will learn how to use programs to design 3D printed and laser-cut objects. They will also learn about e-textiles, which are electronics embedded in clothing. This will involve both hand sewing and some basic programming. Towards the end of the week, students will select a final project to create and will present the product to the class.

Nope! All technology will be provided.

While we try our best to keep our programs as cost friendly as possible, if cost is still a barrier for a student who truly wants a robotics experience, we will do “whatever it takes” to help get your student enrolled. Remember students with Gateway health plan can get a free week of camp! Learn more on our Programs & Services Page.

Each program is run by a trained and certified teacher in their discipline. Robotics camps are run by CMRA certified teachers and Maker Camp is run by a trained professional in Making!
