Types of Volunteering Opportunities

After School Games Room and Gym Activities  – Billiards, foosball, ping-pong, board games, basketball, soccer, other active games.  Adults are often needed to teach sportsmanship and skills to youth in our games rooms and gymnasiums. Having additional adults in the games room means that our members are surrounded with positive role models. One-on-one interaction between youth and adults is an essential building block for healthy development of youth.

Teens – The Club – Positive adult role models and Career Works Workforce Development Academy mentors are always needed to make our teen programs a success and build relationships with teens and interact with them in this safe, fun, and age-appropriate environment. Volunteers must be outgoing and interested in building relationships with teens.

Education Center and Computers – Homework assistance, tutoring, storytelling, Office/Google Suite training, Web design, Internet surfing, tech support, supervision, programming.

Each day, kids come to our Clubs looking for assistance and attention. Volunteers are often needed to give each student the attention they deserve. Adult tutors are also needed to meet with youth to help build their skills in a particular area.

Coaching – Flag football, hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer, martial arts, golf, dodgeball
. Coaching takes a special person who cares about youth and who can model teamwork, sportsmanship, and the joy of being involved in a positive, healthy activity.

Special Skills – Cooking, art, dance, magic, outdoors, environmental education, or any other appropriate special skill.  Each of us has a special passion. Whether it’s kites, cupcakes, model airplanes, or anything else—one-time demonstrations or weekly classes—you choose the topic and the format! Don’t be shy…your hobby might be just what some child needs to keep him or her going when the things get tough.

Maintenance – Construction, painting, cleaning, grounds keeping, or landscaping. Our Clubs are visited by hundreds of youth daily, and our equipment and facilities get extreme use by active kids. If you have a skill or an interest in this area, your help can save BGCWPA dollars better spent on providing activities for youth, and you can help create an environment where members feel comfortable and at home.

Fundraising –  We are always looking for volunteers for our specialty events.  We would love to have support securing sponsorships, auction item donations , ticket sales and program advertisements.  We would also love to have your support to help us spread the word.

Clubhouse Programs – We have access to youth who need us most and serve them with high quality after school programs ensuring they are prepared academically, emotionally and experientially to move into post secondary education, productive employment and active citizenship. We care about the local community and want to ensure our kids have the best opportunities for success.
